Troubleshooting and FAQ

Fixes for common problems and the message the app shows for each: late chat, expired VoDs, video that will not play, failed renders, quota limits.

Last updated Oct 26, 2026

Most problems in vod.ing show a message that says what is wrong. This page lists the common ones and the fix the app offers, and links to the page that covers each feature in full.

Chat looks late next to the video

Twitch chat trails the video by a few seconds, and the gap is different for each streamer. Set the delay for the streamer once. In the Chat panel, select the delay button in the header, or Set the delay in the Chat looks late? note under the messages, and tune it while the video plays. See Chat sync and delay.

The chat sync card on a CohhCarnage VoD, at Step 1 of 2, listing moments to line the chat up with.

A VoD will not download, or Twitch no longer has it

If a fetch fails, the card's button reads Retry. Select it to request again.

If it keeps failing, the VoD may have been deleted on Twitch. Twitch keeps standard broadcasters' VoDs for 7 days, affiliates' for 14 and partners' for 60, and nothing can fetch a VoD after that. The only fix is to request VoDs you want before they expire. See Request a VoD.

The video will not play

If the panel says This VoD is stored as followed by a quality and codec, and which this browser can't decode, the VoD is in HEVC or AV1 and your browser cannot play it. The chat graph, search, Moments and clip rendering still work.

  • Use Chrome or Edge on Windows or macOS, or Firefox on Windows with the HEVC extension.
  • Or switch the VoD to 1080p from your library.

When you request a VoD, rungs your browser cannot play are marked won't play in this browser. See Player and keyboard shortcuts.

A render failed or looks stuck

A clip's status badge tells you where it is. Open the Activity icon in the sidebar to watch renders in progress.

StatusWhat to do
QueuedIt is waiting to start. Give it a moment.
a percentageIt is rendering.
FailedSelect Retry render in the clip's details.
StaleYou changed the clip's start or end, or the chat delay, after rendering. Select Re-render.

If a render keeps failing, open Settings, select Support and then New ticket, and tell us which clip it is. See Clips and Chat overlay render.

A download or request is refused

The app names the limit you hit and shows an Upgrade button.

  • You're out of storage. Remove VoDs or clips, or upgrade.
  • You've used all of this month's VoD-import quota. Wait for the next month, or upgrade.
  • You've used all of this month's download (bandwidth) quota. Downloads stop, and the player shows Download quota exceeded until the month resets.
  • You've used all of this month's render time. New renders wait for the next month.
  • You need an active plan to do that. Start a plan or the trial.

See Plans, quotas and billing for what each quota counts.

My clips disappeared after a refresh

Clips you have not saved are drafts, marked with a dimmed lightning-bolt icon, and a refresh loses them. Press Cmd/Ctrl + S to save them. A clip needs to be saved before it can be tagged, rendered or downloaded. See Clips.

I cannot download my timeline

The download button on a timeline stays disabled until every clip that needs a render has one. Hover it to see what is missing. See Timeline maker.

Sign-in stops with a message about email

Vod.ing needs a verified email on your Twitch account for billing. Add and verify one in your Twitch settings, then sign in again. See Sign in and your trial.

An editor invite will not accept

The editor must be signed in with the Twitch account that uses the invited email, must not already have a plan, and needs a free seat on the owner's plan. See Editor seats.

A free tool says the daily limit is reached

The chat overlay renderer allows 10 renders a day and the VoD sync finder 50 lookups a day, per Twitch account, and both reset at midnight UTC. See Free chat overlay renderer and VoD sync finder.

Quick answers

Do I need to download the VoD? No. Our servers fetch it and keep it in your workspace. You only download the clips, overlays and timeline you export.

Does vod.ing render my finished video? No. You find the moments, cut clips and overlays, and export a timeline. The edit itself happens in DaVinci Resolve.

Does it work with non-Twitch VoDs? No. Vod.ing is built around Twitch VoDs and their chat replay.

Is there a free trial? Yes, 7 days on the 50 GB plan. See Sign in and your trial.
